Denton's Certificate of Appropriateness process applies to specified historic properties. The city lists Oak-Hickory, West Oak Area and Bell Avenue among the local districts covered by its guidance, along with designated landmarks. A house being old does not, by itself, establish that a review applies.
If the address may be covered, confirm its status with Historic Preservation before choosing an exterior change. The city's checklist includes in-kind replacement, so keeping a similar shingle is not an automatic reason to skip that conversation.

Show the current condition

If the conversation starts after weather damage, explain the event and what you observed. If it is a planned replacement, explain the reason and the appearance you want. What if I only have photos of the roof?
