Start at the roof
Describe the concern that prompted the call: a leak, visible wear or a planned replacement. Include the current material if known. Review the proposed roofing scope before treating other exterior items as part of the job.
List the connected work
Identify individual windows and doors, gutter areas or painted surfaces you want considered. Mark each as a priority now or a possible later phase, so the estimate can keep those decisions clear.
Frisco has different paths for different scopes.
The city's residential permit page separates self-service replacements, including a roof replaced with the same material and doors or windows, from projects submitted for review, including additions and alterations. Describe the actual work before choosing an application category.
A material change or a change to an opening deserves its own question to city staff. The city's category list is a starting point; it does not approve an individual property.

Separate the scopes
Ask for roofing, openings and finish work to be identified clearly. A combined conversation should still tell you which work is included.
Discuss the order
Review access, material delivery and which parts of the exterior need to be available at each stage. Include any household schedule constraints.
Clarify the handoff
Before work starts, establish who is coordinating required applications and inspections, and what you should receive when the agreed work is complete.
Have an association's written material or color requirements? Bring them to the discussion before selection. Ask the association about its process separately from city review.

Does replacing a roof with a different material use the same Frisco process?
Do not assume so. Frisco specifically lists roofs replaced with the same material in its self-service category. Ask the city how the proposed change should be submitted before scheduling work.
Should I request everything at once if I may phase the project?
Share the full wish list and identify the work you want first. That gives the estimate conversation a clear priority without committing you to a larger project.
